Here are inspiring and powerful excerpts of our heroines from the Bible.
Proactive - Deborah - Judges 4-5
Deborah, a prophet and wife of Lappidoth, led Israel at that time. She was a proactive leader who took the initiative and guided Israel during a crisis. She demonstrated courage and faith, inspiring others to follow her example.
Discerning - Abigail -1 Samuel 25
Abigail was wise and discerning, quickly assessing the situation (1 Samuel 25:3). She was a discerning woman who could see beyond the surface level. She understood the situation with David and her husband, Nabal, and took wise action to prevent conflict.
Thoughtful - Ruth -Ruth 2-4
Ruth was kind to Naomi, and her thoughtful actions spoke louder than her words (Ruth 2:20). She was a thoughtful and compassionate woman who put others before herself. She demonstrated loyalty and kindness to her mother-in-law, Naomi, and ultimately found blessing and redemption.
Prophetic - Anna - Luke 2:36-38
There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. Luke 2:36. Anna was a prophetic woman who served God and sought His presence. She recognized the Messiah when He came and proclaimed the good news to all who would listen.
Spirit-filled - Mary, mother of Jesus- Luke 1:35 & 46-55
The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Luke 1:35. Mary was a spirit-filled woman who surrendered to God's plan and purpose. She demonstrated faith and obedience, carrying the Son of God and giving birth to the Saviour.
Teachable - Mary of Bethany: Luke 10:38-42
Mary sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he taught. Mary of Bethany was a teachable woman who recognised the value of learning from Jesus. She sat at His feet, listening and absorbing His teachings, demonstrating humility and a willingness to learn.
Selfless - Esther: Esther 4-7.
Esther risked her own life to save her people, demonstrating selfless courage. Esther 4:16. She was a selfless woman who put the needs of others before her own. She risked her life to save her people from persecution, demonstrating courage, faith, and loyalty.
Courageous - Shiphrah and Puah: Exodus 1:15-22.
The midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, feared God and disobeyed the king's orders, showing courageous faith. Exodus 1:17. They were courageous women who defied the king's orders and spared the lives of Hebrew babies. They demonstrated faith, conviction, and bravery in the face of adversity.
Faithful - Sarah: Genesis 11-25
Sarah, despite her doubts, remained faithful to God's promise, and her faith was credited to her as righteousness. Romans 4:19. She was a faithful woman who trusted God's promise, despite her initial doubts and fears. She demonstrated perseverance and loyalty, ultimately receiving the blessing of a child.
Humble - Martha Luke 10:38-42.
Martha, despite her busyness, humbled herself and acknowledged Jesus as the Lord. Luke 10:40. Martha was a humble woman who recognised her limitations and priorities. She welcomed Jesus into her home, demonstrating hospitality and a willingness to learn.
